Why do my video uploads on YouTube have a narrow window?

Hi

I'm uploading some amatuer iPhone videos to youtube

Videos are ok / full screen when viewed from the camera roll on my phone, but they have a very narrow window when seen on you tube ..i.e. IF I use my iphone your tube app to view them again from you tube site

what am I missing / messing up ?
