First, i have no love at all for either of those companies. But they aren't completely to blame. and taking frustrations out on their employees and customer support people doesn't gain much since they have absolutely no control of the iphone 4 shortage. Oh And no i dont work for either of them .. i just have 2 ip4's on preorder lol
Here is just a thought on how things might have happened.
this is fiction, this never occured, but what i envision.
The first night of WWDC , At&T calls an emergency board of directors meeting, and wants to which one of them dropped the ball on not telling the rest of the board on the 15th preorder announcement. None of them knew, so they call Mr Ego Steve..
(the converstation as i see it)
AT&T: Hi Steve, we just heard about the 15th launch on the news. Can you let us know what your sales forecast is for that, and what our allotment of each type of phone for the initial release? We would like to plan on manpower and resources for it, it is only a few weeks away.
Ego Steve: Hi, Well,those numbers are top secret and even though you are At&T , you are not on the need to know list. Only 3 people here at Apple know and they are sworn to secrecy.
At&T: but Steve, we really need to be prepared. This could also strain our poor performing networks even more.
Ego Steve: I am sorry , but I will not add you to the need to know list, those numbers are our corporate secrets. You will just have to wait until the 15th , like Best Buy.
<click, Steve hangs up>
Steve sits back and thinks ,, damn why didn't At&t ask me for those numbers in an email, i could have told them no in an email with my new shiny white iphone 4 that they won't be getting either
