when refeering to work hrs?

seriously, its always more like 8-5 to account for the hr lunch

anyone agree?

This is the usual way of referring to a full day. I have often done the 730-400 thing with the half hour lunch, or 830-500 thing but that's a real mouthful. In 30+ years of working, I have never had an 8-5 shift per se with a whole hour for lunch in any type of job.

It's also kind of like gas. I paid $2.40 a gallon, but it was acutally $2.39 and 9/10s a gallon but I would never say it that way. So I simply say $2.40 to get the general idea across. 9-5 will always be the statement you hear, also like people saying so and so is making an album instead of making a CD or straight to iTunes "release".

I set my own hours, so I'm a 7 to 4 person meself.

Some people don't get an hour lunch. Some only get a short 15-30 minute break, which may be paid.

Well, I work 9-5 (including an hour for lunch) so it must be true.

Oh, and thanks for getting the song stuck in my head! :D

I do six months straight of anything between 8am-6pm to 6am-10pm seven days a week, then have four months off!

People say "9 to 5" because until recently, most offices worked from 9am to 5pm, regardless of the lunch allowed. Hourly employees began to show up early/stay late to make up lunch to get a 40 hour week starting in the 80's. Salaried employees often continue to work from 9 to 5, unless they are in a business where they are expected to go above and beyond. Also, with the exception of Fridays, most service offices are open 9am to 5pm (Banks, School Offices, City/County/State/Country/Federal facilities) making it difficult for most people working "regular" hours to get any work done with those offices difficult. Friday throws a wrench into that, because some offices are open later on Friday (most banks stay open until 6pm) whereas other services close at 1pm.

Hmm...a little detour here.

We are paid 12 months salary, and then possibly anything between 1 - 6 months bonus. Now lets discount the bonus for the time being.

Scenario 1

12 calender months in a year, so assuming $4k / mth :

12 X 4 = 48 k / year.

Scenario 2

52 weeks in a year, so assuming the same 4k / mth :

(4 / 4) x 52 = 52 k / year

Hmmm?

So which means, 52 - 48 = 4k --> 1 month of bonus discrepancy we have here.

A calender year has 365 (discounting the leap) days, So the mean no. of days in a calender year is 365 / 12 = 30.4.

All the months that have 31 days - 30.4, thats actually the number of days that we work for free (without getting paid)!
