So i'm sitting here eating lunch at WWDC. I look around and see a sea of developers enjoying themselves.

And then all of a sudden just got curious as to why people actually do come to WWDC.

This is my first time coming to WWDC. And for me half the reason for being here was to see Jobs speak and for a few specific sessions to see what I can do better on what i'm working on and for the labs.

But for some of these people couldn't just figure out. Cuz honestly, the info that was giving out in the sessions, was just ok. Yes of course they give out some "pointers" but still... its more of an announcement than anything else.

Would the other attendants of WWDC be the same?

I just finished lunch too, I'm the guy with the MBP...

Why I go:
- learn in detail about new features coming out
- learn best practices about current and upcoming APIs
- learn inside knowledge that usually goes unpublished
- see firsthand the direction the OS is going both technically and visually
- talk directly with Apple engineers
- meetup with colleagues, past and present
- troll the newbies who find retain/release hard :D

Sessions at a lot of conferences are often like that. They can be fairly basic and introductory, but they do give you the opportunity to meet others who are dealing with the same issues and that can lead to be useful discussions

Pop on over to the lunch table next to you and ask :)

networking is a major function of these conferences

Asked the guy next to me...

Quite funny, yet concerning....

I asked this guy next to me, why he attended wwdc.... He gave me a funny look and said. "to me this is like pilgrimage to the holy land"

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple gave all their developers who attend, a free iPhone 4, in the same way that Google gave all their developers a Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 *AND* the Android expo was about 1/3 the ticket price!

Likely? No.

Perfect illustrations of the old economic principle of "supply and demand".
