Hey I was wondering if you guys could provide me with some answers to why people use Linux on a Mac when Unix and Linux are very similar and there is almost no point? Why not just run linux on your PC and take advantage of your lovely OS X on your Mac?

Why do you keep asking silly questions? First asking why people using external monitors, then asking why people use windows and now this? Who cares

If we had a downvote, your post would get it.

... You people aren't answering the question. What things to people accomplish with Linux on their Mac? Why would they NEED it?

I hate linux but this is a stupid question,

Because people can run what ever they want on there computer.

NOT YOUR COMPUTER. THERE COMPUTER!

Folks either have a need to, or a want to. In my case I run linux in a VM because I get paid to develop embedded systems sw running on linux.

They may enjoy learning new things
They may need the environment for work/jobs
They may want to have an OS to tinker with and customize as a hobby
They may come from a Linux background and are transitioning
They may need certain software available to the Linux community

The list is endless as to why one person's needs are different than another

Linux is very similar in innards to OS X - that is true. However, the user-facing bits are VERY different. I run Linux because I need to test my cross-platform software against it.
