In years past, people might sign up for a MacRumors account to send a Private Message to someone else. We eventually had to limit Private Messages to members who have posted because of PM spam, so that's no longer the case.

Some forum sites have areas that all registered members can see but the public cannot. Some require that you pass a human verification test (typically those "CAPTCHA" images where you type the letters and numbers) every time you submit a search, so it's again a benefit to join even if you don't post.

Those are not the case for MacRumors, but maybe some people have signed up because they are curious if something new will appear!

Probably they sign up to learn about Mac hardware, software, and OS, then discover the "Forum Spy". After browsing the threads there with all the b**thing, moaning, and whining they decide, "what a bunch of ninny's", and leave.

I'm about to become a Mac newbie so I've been lurking here for a few months, before I created a profile to create a thread... Then I realised what a dumb arse I would have been and shot down in flames if I had posted my question and did more searching and reading... o_O

Why does it bother you though? How did you even find this guy?

Couldn't agree more. What I find to be a problem is the people who drum up a reason to post, thinking it will boost their post count. I know that posting in this section won't help my post count, but I wish that the moderators were more suspect. This whole thread is nonsense.

Perhaps they found they cannot PM to send spam.

There should be a CAPTCHA for newbies to post threads.

Should be something like:
- what is the search engine starting with g that can find your answers without making duplicate threads
- how do you view recently created thread titles, post a thread title from 15 threads down

never filled out a profile, rarely post a reply, but get alot of good info on this site if you can weed through the BS!

I do this often; I find a new forum that I peruse; I don't really have anything to say, but I want to secure my own username, so I register but never post; I have done for a few hundred forums. ;)

You're worse than a domain squatter! ;)

Only kidding. I've just come out of a 3 year period where I didn't post anything. It's got a lot more bitchy on here since I first joined.

Before we just had to use with people annoyingly saying PeeSees... Now we have to deal with outright flames.

Why does it bother you though?

Excellent question. Why??

How did you even find this guy?

If you know Teh Way™, you can sort the member list by number of posts. I bet there are hundreds, if not thousands, with zero posts.

EDIT: 87,753 with 0 posts, as of a minute ago.

Anyone have some smelling salts for the O.P.??

This whole thread is nonsense.

Another winning answer.

Why do you think so?

Now you're approaching annoying.

lol

lol I signed up on the forum just so I could answer that thread !! It is hilarious and creepy too :apple:

i do sign up on forums too sometimes because I need to have full access at some images or threads... For example I signed up on several fish forums when my salt water fishes were sick... although I never really posted anything, just needed to look at a few pictures :p

A better question?

Why do you have so much time to find people with 0 posts?

Even a better question?

Why do I have so much time to respond to this thread? Damn!;)

Maybe the dude/dudette forgot the password. I have a bank account and health care account that I can't access online because I...What was I doing??

Post about someone who does nothing generates 23 replies. We all need to get outside.
