Looking at some games compatible with macOS on Steam, some of them requires Mojave as a minimum. Anybody have any idea what would be the reason? Just curious.

I mean I'm not used to games having such stringent OS requirement (Mojave, being just a 2-year-old OS). I mean in contrast, plenty of Windows games still have old Windows 7/8 as min requirement.

Apple adds and removes macOS APIs all the time. It could be that the Steam game that requires Mojave is needing a particular macOS API that exists in Mojave.

I'm thinking this comes down to OpenGL. Apple deprecated OpenGL and I believe Mojave is the first macOS that doesn't support this older graphics library. I know a bunch of my old Quartz screensavers don't work in Mojave anymore.

So the game needs to be written for Metal otherwise it won't work in Mojave.

Windows is the undisputed consumer OS champion of supporting legacy technology.
