Why do some of my apps not work through my wireless internet connection

Im having a bit of trouble with some applications on my Macbook.
I have a Macbook with OSX 10.4.11 running on wireless internet. The internet works fine but all of a sudden I cannot get MSN or Google Notifier to work through wireless internet. They only work when I plug my laptop in to the modem.

Similarly my Gmail has stopped uploading attachments to emails unless I plug it in too.

Any ideas why this is and how I can fix it?
