Why do you guys apply BSE/IS front shield on your iphone/ipod touch??

I've had my iPhone since June 30, most of the time unprotected, and do not have any scratches like in that video. Everytime I think I've scratched it or something, it usually wipes off with a cleaning. I hate those front screen protectors, and am not even a very big fan of cases on my cell phone. But I'm almost scared into considering something now for my iPhone. I'm using the agent18 case off and on currently, but it offers no screen protection. I liked that for the most part.
