Why does Apple make it such a pain in the ass to delete voice recordings?

Has anyone figured out how to do it? The Voice Memos UI is a convoluted mess. 6s here.

I don't have a problem the way it is set up now. Only takes a few seconds....

How do you do it?

Every time I highlight a recording, press the blue square, and then hit delete, it does absolutely nothing.

As soon as you finish recording there's an option to save or delete. If you left swipe on it, you can delete it from the list of voice memos.
