Why Does Finder Open Network Windows...

...in the Icon view? Every time I connect to my Windows machine, Finder opens a new window, very small and always in icon view? My Finder preferences are to always use Column view, so I am puzzled as to this behavior. Can anyone shed some light? Is it a known Finder bug?
