Why does iPhone screen go black when listening to audiobooks, but only dim for music?

When I listen to an audiobook, my iPhone 3GS screen goes black after a while (which is nice for drifting off to sleep). But, if I listen to music, the screen stays on...all night if I fall asleep without shutting it off. It does dim a little, but it is still quite bright.

Is there a setting somewhere to change this? I'd like it to always fade to black after a while.
