Why does Limewire suck now? Should I be using Torrent files?

So Limewire doesn't return crap for results anymore. I used to be able to find the occasionally useful DMG file there but the only thing you get now is crap and porn, whether you want it or not. I've once used BitTorrent and it worked good for that one file but I don't know where to go to find the link file to get a download started. What's the best way to do this?
