I'm a very oblivious person, so this might have been going on for some time, but can anyone tell me what I've done (if anything) to cause the Brightness bar in my MacBook Pro Display prefs to pulse (click on image to get ~300KB movie)?

It doesn't do this on my Intel iMac or my PowerBook.

Does it do this on all MBPs? Is my Mac insane? Did I click on some pref elsewhere and just never noticed this side effect?

Maybe reinstall that single preference pane?
The thing is, it's working fine. Just pulsing. I don't want to break anything by trying to replace what might be the correct pane - it's just odd that it's doing this, and I don't actually know if it always has or it just started doing it.

Uncheck "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" and it will stop, but so will the automatic feature. :)

Ah!

Thank you. I'm not used to this new-fangled stuff yet. ;)

It does it just to make you angry.

The auto-adjust brightness was the first thing I turned off! It always made my screen brighter than I needed it to be!

My PowerBook does this as well...never noticed it before.
