I'm not positive, but I would imaging the brightness settings on the new HDR display have to be tempered slightly.

I would just call Apple and ask

No man, I rarely touch my phone and I'm in a room with an ambient temp of 23C. I'm a light user. Barely use the phone to check my Instagram and Whatsapp
 
since they're into automatically turning everything on that youve specifically turned off (Bluetooth, Wifi-) I wouldn't put it past them to automatically turn the brightness down to 80% after a while indoors when the ambient light isn't daylight.

I guess that makes the most sense. I will try turning off True Tone display for a while and see if it turns the brightness back down.
