This may be a noob question, but why does my Macbook Pro run Soundtrack Pro so slowly?

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro non-unibody with 2.4 Ghz Intel Dual Core and 4 gb of ram. It runs Final Cut Pro very smoothly. On average I work with around 10 tracks of audio, but even if I have two or three, it still runs slowly. It applies effects and saves my project very slowly. Running 10 tracks in Final Cut Pro also runs smoothly.

So, do I need a computer upgrade or is there another solution.

Thanks you!

What do you mean by "slowly" ? Can you try to quantify that at all? I have run Soundtrack on a 1.8GHz Dual G5 with no problems. The only thing I can think of is that it had 7.5GB of ram. You do have a laptop of course, and that means poor harddrive performance. So I guess i go back to my original question... are you saying the only slow things is saving projects and applying effects? How slowly is slow for that?

I think my problem could be that I'm still using a usb 2.0 hard drive. Big mistake.

I use a hard drive with USB 2.0 and Soundtrack Pro seems to run plenty fast. You might be right though, you might want to try moving the files to your internal hard drive and see if it speeds up

I've moved on to a new project and it seems to be fast now. I guess it was just those couple project. IDK
