Why does my hard drive space keep changing with VMWare?

I have a macbook and I'm running VMWare Fusion on it and my hard drive capacity keeps decreasing and increasing by a few GB up and down whenever I run it. I'm not downloading anything in the virtual hard drive for Windows, just running one program in Windows so why does it go down and then back up again?

It's storing a copy of the RAM.

Yes, if the VM needs more RAM, but not enough RAM is available, content from the RAM gets copied to the HDD (SWAP / PAGE OUT), thus more RAM can be used.
