My wifi network should be strong enough because my PC says the connectivity is Good. The why does my iMac keep scanning for wifi networks (and its icon grey out)?

Are your iMac and your PC in the same location? Even then, are their respective WiFi antennae similarly located. Even small variations of angles, open spaces, and solid objects can affect signal strength.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to add your home wireless network as a preferred network. Then, it will join this first (as long as it can find the signal).
