Like tonight for example, we were at a concert (Coldplay lol) inside an arena... I was on "E" the whole time inside the building, and couldn't do anything (email, or even send a damn text).

She was on 3G and could do whatever she wanted.
We both have an iPhone 3G, only difference is mine is 16gb and her's is 8.
We're on the same plan...

How is that even possible?

i dont know about iPhones, but with verizon, i could be on one tower while my friend is on another because maybe he connected farther away or something even when we are in the same spot.

At a big stadium this is the likely cause. Each tower can connect only so many phones. Her phone connected to the close tower and when your phone tried the closer tower was "full" and you got the next one a few miles down the road. Makes sense if 30,000 people were all in one place that the local tower would get loaded up.
