Why does my iPhone get so HOT and the iPod touch doesn't?

I thought the screen on the iPhone was the big power hog causing it to get hot but the touch is cool as can be with the same type of screen (actually sharper than the iPhone). The touch is running continuously while surfing the web.

This is my third iPhone and they all got hot.

Anybody have an idea as to what is causing all the power drain?

Its probably because of Edge

Is there any way to turn the modem off when you are using Wi-Fi?
