I have a 2017 MBP if it makes a difference.
But whenever my MBP is shut up and the lid is closed, all it takes is for me to open the lid and the MBP begins to turn on, on its own.

why does it do this?
When was it introduced and how can I turn this ‘feature’ off?

Mr Google provides this: https://osxdaily.com/2017/01/19/disable-boot-on-open-lid-macbook-pro/
Not sure if it still works, there were few macOS versions (and so firmware upgrades) since that was published.
And why? Getting ready (and faking in 2017 MPB case) for "always on" behavior, similar to iPhone/iPad. No one walks around with off iOS devices or routinely powers them down except for rare reboot or long storage. I had to look up on line how to power down my Xr since I do it so rarely...
With new M1 (and future) notebooks, Apple will try to make shut down rare event. I am not against it, if it works well enough.

Thank you kindly for finding this for me. Will read up on it now. Hate that it does this, mainly cause I just wanna clean my MBP keyboard and screen with alcohol solution while its off.

I agree that if they were to do it well id be up for it, but for now if I want my devices off they should stay off.

When you open the lid, turn off the Mac and then you can clean. Once you are done cleaning, turn back on.

I prefer this behavior actually. I always shutdown my Mac recently due to I rarely use it (once every 2-3 days). At least I don’t have to worry about the battery suddenly empty.

Apple started this on the MBP starting with the 2016 and newer models.
Also starting with the 2018 models pressing any key on the keyboard will also cause it to boot up. Not very helpful if you are trying to clean the keyboard.

YIKES !!!!
You DO NOT WANT TO DO THIS !!!

The WORST THING you can do to the screen is to use alcohol on it.
The MBPro displays have a VERY THIN "sprayed on" particle-based coating that provides for the anti-glare feature.
Just about anything you do to it, starts to wear that coating off.

This is what "StainGate" is all about.

You should use a soft cloth and just "dust away" loose crud on the display with NO PRESSURE.
If something won't come off, use a cloth moistened with water, and only enough pressure as needed to remove it. Then, dust dry.

And ANY KIND of liquid on the keyboard carries some risks of it "getting into things" and mucking up the works.

My opinion only.
Others may disagree.
Some may disagree vehemently.

I don't like start when I open lid at the beginning. because I press on power buttons to start computer for years.

now I so get used to it and like it.
