I keep my watch and phone on a charging stand beside my bed, but the watch has started emitting a soft ding and lighting up for about five seconds regularly throughout the night. It’s very annoying. I turned off nightstand mode, but that’s not the culprit. It might have something to do with periodically disconnecting and the reconnecting to the charger, which is a third-party device. Even when I very carefully place the watch on the charger this still happens. The watch is charging fully overnight, but is there a way to prevent the constant sound and light show?

I had the same issue on some of my older Apple Watches a while back. I was using a third party metal stand in which I had placed the official charging puck. I think it’s because the watch doesn’t stay connected to the charger continuously and keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. I don’t have the problem anymore as I now use the Belkin Boost Charge 3 in 1 which has a built in puck.

It seems that every now and then different OS version prevent the watches from charging with third party chargers, but then it gets resolved. Until later, then the problem comes back. I could be wrong but I feel I've seen that trend.

I have a similar issue where the third party chargers that worked with my first gen SE don't work nice with my S8. I suspect Apple will update in an upcoming OS release.

I used to have this problem when I used the 5 watt charging block to charge one of my Apple watches. Changed to a 12 watt charger and have not had the problem since. I use the same old charger puck in a third party metal, stand with 12 watt charger on my Ultra with no problems.

My wife had the problem with a stand for the charger. The puck was the Apple supplied charger but the support stand for it apparently didn’t allow it to be properly positioned. Frequently during my late night bathroom excursions as I walked through the room, our floors bounce a little, I believe the watch connected and disconnected causing the problem. She gave up the stand and just places the watch on the bare charger and hasn't had a repeat of the issue.

Never had this issue with my previous apple watches and I have a 7 that does not ding. But the Ultra will ding on the charger. I have a HiRise 3. I am testing on an alternate charger.

The Ultra is heavier and some charging stands may not position it properly to prevent it from sliding just enough to interrupt charging. we experienced that long ago with previous chargers. The ones I use now don’t have that issue.
