So I've named my external hdd as "ARCHIVES I." It appears that way on Finder just fine. But when I go to Disk Utility, the Mount Point for the drive appears as: /Volumes/ARCHIVES I 3. OS X adds that extra 3. Normally it wouldn't care, but now I'm getting concerned because lately apps like Motion, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro and even iPhoto, (which all have their libraries and contents on this external hdd) can't automatically link to their libraries anymore. Just wondering if these two things are related.

I think OS X has recognized the external HD as a different drive each time its connected. To handle duplicate volume names, the system appends a number to each subsequent volume name.

My suggestion would be to eject the drive, restart the computer, and see what happens.
