I noticed the Recovery volume was mounted in /Volumes/Recovery, so I ejected it.
Later on I noticed it was mounted again, so I ejected it.
The third time I started investigating, and learned that it gets mounted whenever Time Machine does a backup. Does anyone know why Time Machine needs access to the Recovery volume? I'm guessing not ejecting it after it's done is a bug, albeit a minor one.
Mostly curious; this isn't something to get bent out of shape over by any means.
