I'm trying to use video chat over the internet and it just always freezes up and gets distorted. Both ends have a fast cable (comcast) internet connection through ethernet. Both are AIM accounts. Would .mac be faster? This is just with standard settings, I didn't change anything.

In the past I've used iChat on a local network which was great, but it sucks over the internet. Am I doing something worng? Has it ever worked?

I find it actually to be a very good chat client, I use it every day. But I wouls say that your proablem could involve permissions, try resetting.

Ok, well at least I know it works for some. I bought my mom a new iMac just for this, so I could keep in touch with her. A real bummer. My sister is having a good laugh about it because I'm always pushing apple stuff. Grrrrrrr...

I have a newer MBP btw, maxed out. I've been playing with it over the last ten days and the stupid thing still won't work. Even when I plug the ethernet straight into the MBP.

It's because your router isn't allowing it through. Try turning off Internet Sharing in your preferences or opening up the required ports on your router (these are documented on support.apple.com).
