As Apple touts every year that the iPhone has the most advance camera on the planet, why can’t we pause/resume video recording? It’s 2022… I can’t tell you how many recordings in my library are spliced into multiple videos. I’m sure millions share my frustration.

Asking since I’m not sure I understand…

What’s the difference between pausing the recording, and stopping and then starting a new recording? Or recording the whole thing you’re observing and then deleting the bit after.

1. Because if I’m video recording one event, but I only want certain parts of said event filmed, I can pause/resume when I want to. Why have 7 different videos in my library for one event?

2. Have you ever filmed in 4K @ 60 fps on an iPhone for long periods? Your storage is massacred. It overheats your phone. Your battery percentage drops every 30 seconds. I’m not being snarky, it’s just the truth.

I quite agree for those very reasons. Very much a "why" question given the overall capabilities.

As every Apple feature, it will come late, but with some "Apple's twist".

I honestly don’t see the advantage to pausing recording. If I want multiple shots, I want them in multiple clips that I can edit or share separately, or combine later and make sure they transition precisely how and when I want them to.

I think it’s simply about streamlining the Camera app. It’s already quite a complicated interface with lots of modes and options - a pause function means finding room for one more gesture and/or button.

I can see why some people would find a pause button useful, but personally I think Apple has made the right choice here especially when, as others have pointed out, it is trivial to stitch clips together afterwards.

Yeah. I don’t see what the advantage is pausing recording. I look at it as having takes.
If I’m recording something and have multiple takes. I can quickly review a take and choose to keep or delete. With one continuous take I would have to go in and edit out what I don’t want. Unless I want to shoot something in one continuous take.

I agree. I’m also thinking the completing each file with the writing it with the tap of the stop button reduces the chances for corruption if the recording is left in a paused state, especially if sleep is allowed before the stop button can write the file.

Just a guess about the iPhone, but I’ve had a number of very fussy camcorders that loved to produce corrupted files.
