Why doesn't apple create a 18w normal power adapter

This is a nice USB - C that's new, but it forces you to buy a usb c to lighting cable which is super expensive.

Why can't it create a normal 18 w power adapter, so i can keep using my iphone cable from the box?

USB-C is the way forward, why'd they make it compatible with the old standard? There's still the old USB-A 12W version.

I don’t think USB A is meant to carry that kind of current.

if you use your regular USB A cable with an 18W charger you are basically accomplishing nothing. Might as well use the 12W that Apple provides with iPads or sells..... to take advantage of 18W you need a USB C cable anyways.
