Why doesn't the 13" Air have a Retina Screen?

That would make it an almost perfect portable.

Thank you,.....m

Because they introduced the MacBook: ultra portable, same speed as 2014/2015 MacBook Air if processor is updated to 1.2/1.3 GHz and also more RAM and better SSD than the MacBook Air and yeah all this with a Retina display.. I know it's a pricey laptop...

As of right now I think it's because the Air is known for it's battery life and it'd be tough to get 12 hours of battery life out of a retina display of that size as of now. Also it is an entry level mac and it would drive the cost up putting it out of the reach of some mac buyers. I think eventually they'll add a retina display to the MBA or they'll axe the MacBook Air line entirely when the technology is available to get 12 hours of battery life out of the retina MacBook enclosure and the panels get cheaper.
