Hi guys,

Simple question - this has always bothered me. Because I don't have a WiFi at home and only tether my Macbook with my 5G from iPhone (without charging my iPhone on the Mac with a cable, I don't want to have to, I want to keep 100% wireless), so I need it to run smoothly just like any WiFi connection.

I'm seeing some improvement now that I have a M1 Macbook with the latest version of Monterey, and an iPhone 13 Pro Max with latest version of iOS on it, it's much faster to connect and the iPhone is able to recognise the same Hotspot from iPhone 13 Pro Max in the WiFi list, even at the Macbook start up, without the need to go in the iPhone Settings > Hotspot menu each and every time after an iPhone/Macbook reboot or such.

But why, still now, the M1 won't connect automatically to the iPhone Hotspot Wifi connection (I have to click on the Wireless icon and choose the iPhone Wifi which is pre-selected already), just like any other WiFi connection?

This bothers me so much because for instance I have kept my old iPhone 11, and noticed that it keeps connected to the iPhone 13 Hotspot WiFi (I guess through Bluetooth), whenever the two iPhones are in the same room.

So I double checked on my M1 and:

WiFi

- "Automatically join this network" is checked
- "Ask to join Personal Hotspots" is checked
- "Ask to join new networks" is unchecked

iPhone USB

- "Disable unless needed" is checked

Bluetooth/WiFi

- Macbook > Bluetooth/WiFi is on
- iPhone > Bluetooth/WiFi in on

Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible to run iPhone Hotspot WiFi smoothly without any interruption at all, just like a normal WiFi connection, even after each Macbook/iPhone reboot?

Thanks.
