I’ve been running my trusty old iBook G4 at work for years now. It’s been there for me no matter what happened, always ready and willing to help me out. I’ve put together lesson plans, studied, researched random topics, watched videos, listened to music, burned CDs, and a whole host of other activities on it.

But I have to admit something, a dark secret that I didn't want to confess. After purchasing and installing Leopard on my iBook, I was enjoying that machine less and less. It seemed a lot more sluggish, especially Spotlight. I even did a video on how slow Spotlight was! Applications took a while to load, multiple tabs in Safari felt bulky, and I saw a lot of the beach ball, more than I ever wanted to. I tried running maintenance on it, repairing disk permissions, running the periodic scripts, and booting in Safe Mode, but nothing made much of a difference.

So after over a year of Leopard usage, I downgraded my faithful G4 laptop to Tiger. To be honest, I’m quite happy to do it. It’s quite a nostalgic experience to see the old Dock and the classic brushed nickel finish on applications. The return of the blue Apple and Spotlight icons at the top also add a nice touch that emphasizes the “blueness” of Aqua.

So there it is… my iBook G4, running Tiger, and I couldn’t be happier… with that at least.
