For the past ~3 hours, it's been at 90%

Almost all day yesterday, it sat at 80%

Time for exchange?

What happens if you let the battery discharge to below 10%, then plug in to charge uninterrupted?
Set it aside for that time, if possible.
If that is unsuccessful for you (still does not charge past 90%), then, yes, you should return for exchange, or refund.

Are you using the supplied cable and adapter? - or some other alternative for charging?

Are you fast charging it? Remember Samsung put a charging cap on the Note7 up to only 60% initially through a software update. Fast charging generates alot of heat.

Do a hard restart. It's a software bug; I had the same problem.

iOS 11.x is buggy for sure. The Face ID hardware feels like v0.9. It's definitely slower than touch and you have to be fully awake and facing the cameras straight up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that today. Btw I'm using Apple's Lightning-to-USBC cable, hooked up to my Mac to charge.

Since when these kind of “duds” start to happen with Iphones?

Um always? Mass mnufacturing. Issues happen in new cars too when talking a few hundred thousand even.

It’s quite literally happening to other people if you read around the forum, stulaw.
Ok a few, but not the majority. As said a restarts fixes it for some. May be a software bug

A normal shut down and restart works.
Yup, tried that yesterday, and it did improve from capping at 80% to capping at 90%

turn off and turn your phone back on. This happened to me too but this was because I was connected to my itunes and it was syncing data and on top of that paring my apple watch s3. But after everything is synced then I rebooted and reported 100% charged.

I had my X connected to a keyboard USB port and it wouldn’t charge beyond 75% or so. I plugged it in to a 12Amp wall wart and it raced up to 100%. Could it not be getting sufficient power from the USB port you’re using?

this is more of a software issue - has happened to me on a few previous phones. hard restart normally fixed it.

If a restart does not get you past this, are you using the iPhone X while charging? You can actually use more energy then the charging system can add to the battery.

Approximately 2007.

This.

All evening yesterday my phone wouldn’t get past 88%. It was because all my iCloud photos and all my apps were downloading while I was simultaneously using the phone while plugged in. The juice coming in from AC gets priority usage and doesn’t go towards charging the battery if you are taxing the phone.

Lots of people have battery issues of some kind around a launch because we’re updating, downloading, indexing, and playing with it.

The only thing beta about it seems to be your experience with new iPhones. ;)

Idk how I followed you in the first place, I keep getting thread notifications from you everytime you create one. It was like “How iPhone X changed my life overnight”, then “why it is a beta product”. Your titles are so clickbait-like

I was yawning this morning, while lying in bed and FaceID unlocked flawlessly.

I have the same problem. Turning it off and back on changes it to 100% but it doesn’t fix the problem. Maybe I have to do a reset. Annoying to think that I might have to return my phone.
