In fact 8 x 2gig sticks are USD$300 more than twice the price of 4 x 2Gig sticks, according to the Apple Store.

Why? This is either the most shame faced brazen robbery by Apple or I've missed something.

This would mean that if for example a company was going to order two powermacs with 8 gig each, they would be better off ordering one standard and one with 16 Gig. They would then be able to have two with 8.5 gig each and $300 extra cash.

You're forgetting that the base 1 GB of RAM is valued at $300. So actually the first four 2 GB sticks cost $3000 and the second four also cost $3000.

Higher density RAM is almost always more expensive. Partly because of Supply and Demand and also proffit margins are just set higher on higher tech items...

He who orders $6,000 in RAM not notice $300.

Haha ... try Apple's price of $600 for 2 GB laptop RAM for a Mac mini, which is $433 more than I paid at Fry's. Now THAT's highway robbery.

Never buy Apple memory.

Apple basically charges $325 for 2 GB of RAM for the Mac mini...$250 in upgrades + the included base RAM valued at $75. Still expensive, but not $600.
