I just looked at the Air on the Apple web site, and they are comparing the specs to the iPad 2; why wouldn't they compare it to something more current like the iPad 4?
Because the iPad 3 has been discontinued and will the iPad 4 be once the iPad Air is launched. The iPad 2 will still be available as an entry level regular sized iPad so it makes sense for them to compare the iPad Air to the iPad 2.
This got me thinking.
Aren't all the "x" chips now EOL ?
A5x,A6x etc. ?
Seems the A6 and A6X are gone leaving the A5 and A7.
A6 is in 5C.

OK, I am confused here. Why would Apple stop making the 3 & 4 and keep the 2 around; it does not even have Retina display?
Why wouldn't they have a better entry point iPad like the 3 or the 4?
I have the 3 and the 4 has better spec than the 3, so I would like to see the difference between the 4 and the Air to see how much better it really is.

True. It's way cheaper to produce the 2 than it is the 3 and 4 and there's also a bigger difference between the 2 and the Air (much older hardware and no retina). A discerning customer is more likely to go with the Air when comparing those 2 (a win for Apple). But if they go with the 2 it's still a win for Apple because the 2 is way over priced having only received a $100 price drop and it's 3 years old. Profit margins are high on that sale for Apple no doubt.
Ok? So spend a whole 10 seconds searching the internet, it really isn't difficult.
Apple no longer sell the iPad 4, so that's why it isn't on their website.
Thank you for that great insight; don't know what I would have done without it.
