They typically send out invitations exactly one week in advance. If the announcement is March 7th, expect to see invitations on March 2nd. edit: February 29th

Sorry, can't do math....

They generally send out the invites a week before the event, so assuming that the announcement is the 7th and they keep their usual patterns expect the invites to be sent out (and then start being reported on) some time on Wednesday.

Edit:

I'd guess 29th (Wednesday) rather than 2nd (Friday).

Lol what? ... 1 week before the 7th is the 29th feb...? how do you get "one week before" to be 5 days? (fyi a week is 7 days long) :p

Jim Dalrymple said it is happening, on that day with that subject. Take it to the bank, we'll see the invitations in the next couple.

My reliable resource is John Gruber who has curiously said nothing iPad related for a long time. I think he either knows too much or too little to chime in.

I haven't heard of that Jim Dalrymple but maybe I'll start checking The Loop if he's good. His site format looks like Daring Fireball which I enjoy.

Pretty sure even Gruber refers to Dalrymple as a high level source on this sort of thing.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

it is possible that rumors we heard so far are well..rumors and we've been setting ourselves for a huge disappointment. But again, it is that time of the year when apple refreshes their iPad, and supposebly we had some 'reliable' sources telling us a March 7th release.

Let's just wait to see if invites go out soon. *fingers crossed*

Also I might add, this whole lawsuit from proview might be delaying the release as well.

Delaying implies something is overdue.

How is there a "delay" in terms of an anticipated March 7th event given that Apple in the past doesn't send out invites more than a week in advance?

Just sayin... :D

Point taken though - Proview is a wildcard.

I said in another thread I feel they will announce it tomorrow. Microsoft are having a Windows 8 event tomorrow, so iPad 3 event invites will definitely take the spotlight off Microsoft...let's see

Yep -- http://www.loopinsight.com/

Apple announces iPad event for March 7 in San Francisco

As expected, Apple on Monday announced an event to show off the company’s next generation iPad. The invitation, sent to me by Apple, says the event will take place at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

While nobody knows for sure what changes the iPad 3 will have, it is widely expected the device will have a faster processor, improved graphics processor and a Retina Display.

I will be at the event and will publish a live update on The Loop.
