If you look at all the measures put into making you unable to downgrade your firmware it is ridiculous. What kind of power trip are they on?

They don't want you to jailbreak

Also the numbers look good when they say on the news this % people are on the newest firmware

Compare to android which most users are still using old firmware

They are trying to prevent jailbreaking and soft unlocking. It's not ridiculous at all; annoying to those of us who like to jailbreak, but perfectly understandable given Apple's desire to control it's platform. What good would preventing jail breaking with new firmware releases do if you could just downgrade your firmware at any time?
