Sorry if already covered. Whether I’m logged on or not I come on here and another chat site with same format and I get the FaceID icon swirling. Never had to log on with TouchID here or there. Why’s it happening?

Sites for which you have saved/cached credentials in the Keychain get an additional FaceID-scan when (auto)filling the login form data with iPhone X.

I assume the login data form is prepopulated when loading the forum's site, even if not visible on load (as the login form is hidden until touching the 'log in' button), triggering FaceID because keychain is queried.

You can try it yourself:
  • Set 'Stay logged in' -> Close or reload site -> FaceID is not triggered.
  • Log out from this forum -> Reload the site -> FaceID is triggered and your face confirmed-> Log in already prepopulated when clicked (instantly!).
  • Log out from this forum -> Reload the site -> FaceID is triggered but let your face not confirm-> Log in form is not populated, but once you select auto fill password again, FaceID will be triggered to allow access to the keychain.

So an additional security measurement when accessing the keychain.
