Why is Google Maps back in Safari and how do I stop it?

When I type the name of a nearby restaurant into Google in Safari now Google maps is the first item to appear and when I click directions it takes me to a page to install Google maps. I prefer Apple maps, is it possible to change this so that when I click the directions button Apple maps app is launched instead?
