Serious response: "fanboy" is simply a kick to the groin with a larger foot. It's a bigger insult.
Non-serious response: "fanman" sounds like a superhero instead of the sidekick. You can't very well insult your opponent by comparing them to a superhero!

It pretty much started because the people that posted were using non logical and emotion based arguments like boys do.
That would've been MUCH more insulting actually.
