Why is it taking so long to download a movie?

I had codes for a movie to get from the itunes store. I started downloading them yesterday for 1 movie and the extras to that movie and it needed 20+ hrs for it to finish. Is that normal? I got 7 hrs to go with one download completed. I have a macbook pro if that matters.

The 1st restriction you should be looking at is your internet speed.

Is it Dial up ? 1MB, 5MB, 10MB,20MB, 50MB ?

(if you are not sure, then look at what results you get from speedtest.net)

Also what size are the files you are downloading.

At that speed, it will take quite a while. There is nothing you can do about, except get a new ISP.

Ouch your connection is pretty bad.

There I was being sad with my (almost) 1Mb/s download speed.

Ouch that's painful! Seriously, get a new ISP. For that size of a movie, I can download it in about 35 minutes. We have Qwest DSL.
