Why is it when I wake up my MacBook Pro from clamshell....?

The screen stays black and the keyboard is unresponsive? I have to like hold down the power button and boot up in safe mode. It's happened like 3 times already. Thanks

I 'm assuming that the issue occurs when you are connected to an external monitor via TB and maybe even MD. This is a common bug that Apple has not bothered to fix yet FAIK.

1. The first time you attach it to the display after being in normal laptop mode, it always takes a little longer than you would think. If it still won't wake after about 20 seconds...

2. Reset your SMC. It'll work normally for a random period of time, then you'll have to reset the SMC again.

Could also be it's loading the sleepimage back into RAM?

i have similar problems (but not safe-mode) when i clamshell sleep it when usb/FW things are plugged in.

if i disconnect everything then close it, no problems.

The only thing it's connected to sometimes is my external power, had it happen before at my friends house, it just was on my lap unresponsive. No clue what is causing this but it never happened to my black macbook.
