Let me preface the question and say that this doesn't really bother me, but I'm curious as to WHY is happens... Especially after all these years.
Sometimes when repairing Disk Permissions or moving files, the Mac will say "estimated time remaining 23 minutes", but not even 3 minutes later it changes and says "About 30 seconds remaining" (and that 30 seconds is usually the longest 30 seconds ever. Sometimes a minute or two.)
The reason I don't care is because I've been using Mac for 14 years and I expect I. Also, I get pleasantly surprised when it turns out that my 23 minutes is actually about 3. And I know there's a logical explanation for this phenomena, but I'm more interested in why Apple hasn't figured out how to solved it yet?
