Why is Macbook Air shutting down after lid is closed for around 5 minutes or more?

My MBA just started doing this. When the lid is closed for extended time, the computer shuts down and the only way it wakes up is by pressing the power button where it goes through the whole boot process and all my open applications are gone. But if the lid is closed for shorter duration it wakes up on its as soon as it open the screen. Anybody have this problem?

It is a 2010 1.86/4GB/128 MB system by the way and it is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
