I've had a Late-2013 rMBP for some time, and a BT Home Hub 5. Both support 802.11ac.
My network is set up with 2 distinct SSIDs, one for 5Ghz and one for 2.4Ghz. The Hub is set, on 5Ghz, to allow "a/n/ac up to 1300", which is the max setting.
For some time I've noticed (by Alt-clicking the WiFi icon in Menu Bar) that my speeds are (relatively) slow on the rMBP recently, compared to when I first got it - it used to regularly say "975mbps", etc, now it's usually anything from 150mbps to 300mbps.
Thing is, I recently bought a Mid-2012 MBP for my daughter, and it's connected to my 5Ghz network via 802.11n. When I Alt-click IT'S Menu Bar, it tells me it's connected at 450mbps!
Both Macs are sitting right next to each other, connected to same network/SSID.
For what it's worth, the Hub is set to Auto/Smart Channel (in this case 48). The MBP reports RSSI of -44 dBm (the rMBP says -43 dBm). The MBP has Noise of -84 dBm (the rMBP states -93 dBm).
Any idea what's going on?
Thanks!
