I have a mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro 256gb. I have purchased an LG 27UD68 4k monitor, hooked up via a Mini DP to DP. Running 3840x2160 @ 60HZ on the monitor.
I have noticed lag on the 4k monitor when using applications like photoshop and lightroom. Also when videos are made full screen they seem to struggle a little.
My MBP runs Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB. Is this the reason that it is not running great? Using the applications on the MBP itself I have no dramas at all, only when on the 4k monitor.
Apple's website states that this model MBP can run at 3840x2160 @ 60HZ so I am a little disappointed in the performance when hooked upto the monitor.
Could someone please verify what my problem is? Is it that the graphics card is not powerful enough to power the 4k monitor?
If this is the case, I may look to upgrade to the 2016 15" MBP 512gb - Would I have the same issue when the 4k monitor is plugged in?
Considering that the 2016 model can run upto 2 x 5k monitors, I would assume that I would not have the same issue?
Thanks!
