the picture tells most of the story, i would however note that aperture is running from an encrypted disk image, more specifically filevault.
my swap rose to a whopping 12GB before i finally pulled the plug. Aperture only had 200MB worth of pictures in it as i just downloaded it on a trial basis today :)

the moments leading up to this i was just retouching my sisters skin on a 6000x3400 (i think) picture

now after killing aperture i have 2GB ram free but still 1.4GB lying in the swap... why?

is aperture simply not designed to run from /user/Applications/ (well the actual path would be /user/user.sparsebundle/Applications/ )
