Why is Office 2008 so slow on Mac

I have been using my Microsoft Office 2008 on my Mac and it seems to run a lot slower than its Windows counterpart.

Is the newer Office for Mac any better? Any tips as to how I can speed it up?

I was using office 2008, and yeah it's extremely slow. Than upgraded to office 2011, it's almost as quick as iwork. Office 2011 does very good job with less system resources.

The newer one is much better, but the old one was a little better with few fonts on your system

I too had 2008, dreaded opening the apps because it takes so long to open. Just got 2011, it opened in 2 seconds, faster than iwork2009, or any other app on my Mac pro actually, wellllll worth it.
