I really like Safari as a concept, especially its simplicity and the seameless integration with the iPhone and iPad, however since I started really using it in 2020 (despite having had macs since 2011) I couldn't help but notice it is really slow compared to anything else (I tested Chrome and Firefox), especially with animated content (GIF, Json, lottie, wemb, html5 and so on).
Given how I work in animation this is especially bad...
In the specifically made benchmarks Safari passes with flying colors, but I find the experience with pretty much any website to be sluggish, and it's not my connection as I get a full 1GBps (anyway on the same system Firefox is much faster).
Gifs in particular have a very hard time playing smoothly, and it really hinders my work as I constantly have to search, organise and sort animated content from the web for presentations to be delivered to clients.
I don't have many addons installed either, only 1blocker and 1password. That's it.
Do you have any idea why this happens?
Do you have any idea on how to make it better?
I'm this close to let go of the amazing seameless interaction, to switch to a faster solution.
I'm on a mac studio with the M1 Ultra and 128GB of ram.
