Why is searching bookmarks in Safari so clumsy. I need to click to reveal side bar and then scroll to find the search box. Is there a better way?

using the address bar doesn't always work. it seems to only show bookmarks I've visited recently but not all of them.
 
The better way is for Apple to stop trying to hide every interface element. It would be worth complaining to them on their website
