Why is shipping delayed with Verizon?

I noticed that most of the other carriers started shipping out orders today. Some people even received next day shipping so they can get their phones on Saturday / Monday. It seems Verizon isn't going to start shipping until the 24th. Anybody know why they are delaying shipment like this? Did they send all of their first shipment to the stores or something? Is apple sending out another shipment at the beginning of next week?

I'm not sure. I think one reason might be that for online orders, Verizon requires that you respond to a text message to confirm the order. I didn't get my text message until this afternoon, after ordering slightly after 3am. But even after that the status hasn't changed. So I guess we won't really know until either the package is on our doorsteps, or the status changes.
