I was looking to sell my iPhone on Amazon, and wanted to see the price of what others were selling them for. Why would the lowest priced iphone be selling used for $450, when the phone itself is only $300 when you get it?

Because when you buy it from a carrier it is subsidized. You end up paying for the difference in the long run.

Do you know how easily iPhones are sold at that price by any chance? Like how often do you see them sold here on MR, CL, Amazon, or eBay?

Well, now would be a good time to start looking since many will be selling their iPhone 4 or 4S in hopes of upgrading to the 5.

However, you should only pay $450 for an unlocked iPhone. If the phone is SIM-locked to a particular carrier, it's not worth as much.

TBH, since I don't pay for the plan, I was just going to try to sell it for $300 once the jailbreak for iPhone 5 comes out. That way I pay nothing to upgrade, since I'm eligible for upgrade.
